A trip to Alexandria

Haynes and I took Meredith to Alexandra for the day. We rode the train. One of Stacey's friends went with us to help with language, and make sure we did not get lost. We ate lunch beside the Mediterranean Sea. After lunch we went to the beech, then rode the train back to Cairo.

Old Cairo

Matt and Haynes drove to Old Cairo for a day. They walked through the a village and talked with some of the people.

Coptic Wedding

Haynes and I were out walking and came upon a wedding. The bride is brought to the church in a long limo. When she and her dad get out of the car the women of the family start making a loud shrill noise. The bride and her dad walk up the steps to meet the groom and the priest. All of the people attending follow up the steps into the church. The limo driver was friendly and took Haynes and I around to a side door where we good kinda see the ceremony. Bride and groom both had on long white robes over their clothing and wore gold crowns. The brides dress was beautiful, but was covered up. The incense smell was so strong that I could not stand by the door. The ceremony took about an hour. All this time people were getting up and down and going out to answer their cell phone. They were not on vibrate!! The wedding party came out the side door for pictures. While their pics were being taken, another bride was brought to the church, and another wedding took place. Saves on flower money I guess!!!!

Egyptian Beauty Treatments

Egyptian women are beautiful....and they love to keep their skin and hair looking young. This calls for several trips to the Coiffure each week to have their hair styled and hair removed from their entire face.

Susanne had a double treatment this past week. These first few pictures show Madison and Matthew Ray giving me an "ooh la la spa treatment" (they named it!) I had my hair done, a foot treatment with a starfish, a back rub with a jump rope and tattoos placed on my legs as well as a tree frog tattoo on my belly...also complete with Matthew Ray fanning me with a palm leaf! I felt really relaxed after the whole ordeal!:):):)

The video is of me at the Coiffure having "fatla" done on my eyebrows. You can see for yourself what "fatla" is....it is WONDERFUL! I took Meredith for the first time to have her eyebrows done. She is growing up way too fast!

Contrast in the city

The area where we went for the Easter egg hunt looked like Florida. Cairo has different areas everywhere you go. These pictures show such a contract.!!!

Visiting the Citadel and the city of the dead

We visited The Cairo Citadel. It was built in 1176 A.D. to protect against crusaders. It contains the mosque of Muhamammad Ali. It was copied after the Blue Mosque in Istanbul.
